In order make water safe to drink disinfectants are a major component of the water treatment process in the UK, the most common disinfectants used are chlorine and chloramine.

However, some microbes are resistant to chlorine-based disinfectants and could cause an issue to public health.

This issue is being addressed by novel disinfectants hitting the market to make drinking water safer for both humans and animals alike.

At Ridgeway we have conducted a number of in vitro assays assessing the efficacy of novel disinfectants against a range of microbes including Giardia spp., Eimeria spp. and Cryptosporidium spp.
