About us:

Ridgeway Research Limited is a UK-based Contract Research Organisation (CRO) with over 30 years of experience helping businesses develop and license products for the livestock industry. We specialise in veterinary parasitology and R&D and work closely with our customers to offer a bespoke service. Working with small and large-scale clients, we design, conduct and report on various livestock and farmed bird studies. Our parasitology laboratory is Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) certified, and we take pride in the welfare standards we uphold.

Job Title: Parasitology Laboratory Technician (Maternity Cover – 15 month Fixed Term Contract)

Job Description:

This successful candidate will work within the parasitology laboratory team, and be trained to deliver the following duties:

  • Participation in clinical and pre-clinical veterinary studies to GLP standard which may involve farm stock.
  • Analysis of diagnostic samples.
  • Data collection.
  • Maintenance of parasite cultures.
  • Sample collection and processing.

Essentials:

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Adaptable and a quick learner
  • Must be computer literate – (Excel and Word)
  • Good communication and record keeping skills.
  • Works well in a team and independently.
  • Good organisation skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated
  • Ability to work to deadlines.

Desirables:

  • Scientific Degree or previous employment in a similar role.
  • Experience of working to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • An interest in veterinary parasitology
  • 2 years’ experience of working in a laboratory.
  • Minimum A level or equivalent in a science subject

Post Offered:

  • Full time permanent contract – 37.5 hours a week
  • Weekend work on a rota basis (1 in 3 weekends, either Saturday or Sunday for approx. 3 hours)

Location:

St Briavels, Gloucestershire

Additional Information:

Due to the rural location of our business and the lack of public transport, you are responsible to organise yourself (either by holding a valid driving licence and a vehicle to drive/ carpooling/ a lift) in order to get into work on time and leave work every day. You would potentially be required to commute to different places as part of your role so you would need to organise transport in order to do this.

The candidate would need to be comfortable with the idea of farm animal research associated with improving animal health. In addition, although the candidate would not be ordinarily directly working with any animals the intimacy of the site entails that all employees work in close proximity to their accommodation, therefore an interest and appreciation of animals would be a distinct advantage.
