Consortium wins grant funding from the FIPC.

Consortium members Ridgeway Research Ltd (lead), Aberystwyth University, Naturiol Bangor Ltd and Telsol Ltd are proud to announce success in their grant application for funding from the Farming Innovation Pathways Competition (FIPC), which is delivered via a partnership with DEFRA and UK Research & Innovation (UKRI), (Innovate UK).

The aim of this competition is to support the development of novel innovations to help drive and support a productive, profitable and sustainable agricultural sector, and to encourage farmers, growers and producers to become involved in R&D, working in collaboration with industry and researchers to tackle their on-farm challenges and exploit new opportunities.

The focus of the 2 year project is to develop a new plant-derived flukicide containing an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), capable of effectively killing liver fluke in ruminants that the consortium identified in a previous IUK funded collaboration.

A new plant derived product on the market would also benefit UK farmers, who could diversify into growing the plant crop. By forming a sustainable cycle we aim to increase farm profitability and reduce carbon footprints by overcoming losses caused by existing flukicide resistance.

It is hoped that it will provide “green” benefits to the community and increase land use diversity. Greenhouse gas emissions in England and elsewhere in the UK would be significantly reduced, mitigating pressure on the production of meat.
