Throughout Western Europe, the prevalence of Calicophoron daubneyi (rumen fluke) infection in sheep, cattle, and goats has increased substantially in recent years. In some areas of the UK, rumen fluke infections have even outnumbered Fasciola hepatica (liver fluke) infections, with 61% of farms infected in one Welsh survey of 100 farms [1]. Although these fluke share the same intermediate host as liver fluke (the mud snail Galba truncatula), much less is known about rumen fluke. Thus, research is urgently needed to better understand the parasite, the disease, and how infection affects the rumen microbiota.

Rumen fluke metacercariae can now be purchased for the first time from the UK and shipped to order, adding an important parasite to our portfolio. In addition to our activities culturing liver fluke metacercariae, we have a laboratory dedicated to replicating the rumen fluke lifecycle. We also provide contract research for pharmaceutical organisations and culturing and supplying rumen fluke metacercariae to order.
